  • Rhs Choir Takes Top Honors At State Choir Festival
The Russellville High School Choir groups recently competed in the Choral Performance Assessment and State Festival at the University of Central Arkansas, where they received five Best in Class Recipient Awards for the state 6A division.

Each group scored a Division I Superior ranking, which represents the finest possible performance for the event and the class of participants being adjudicated, and had to receive a composite score of 90-100. The Chamber Choir group and Cantate group competed in the Large Chorus Division, which includes 35 or more singers. The Chamber Choir was named the Best Mixed Chorus Large and Cantate Choir was named the Best Female Chorus Large. The Cantate group also received the Best Overall Chorus Large by scoring one more point than Chamber Choir. The Chromatic group competed in the Ensemble Division, which includes 18 or fewer singers. They were named the Best Mixed Ensemble Large and the Best Overall Ensemble.

“This is the best showing that Russellville High School has had at the State Choir Festival,” said Matt Foy, RHS Choir Instructor. “I am very proud of the hard work that the choir has put in this year. This is by far one of the hardest working groups that I have had in recent years, and that hard work really showed during the competition.”

  • RSD Board of Education Approves Bonuses and Raises
The Russellville School District Board of Education met at a special called board meeting on Monday, April 21, to discuss the classified salary study presented by the Johanson Group and the option of providing bonuses and raises for employees in the district.

During the meeting, the Board approved the recommended classified salary schedule presented by the Johanson Group to go into effect for the 2014-2015 school year. A 2.1 percent raise, to be applied to the base salaries on the new classified salary schedule, was also approved for next year. In addition to the 2.1 percent raise, the yearly step increase to the classified salary schedule was awarded to all classified employees who qualify.

The Board also approved a $1,000 increase to the base salary for teachers, and approved the yearly step increases to the certified salary schedule for all certified employees who qualify for the 2014-15 school year. Additionally, a 2.1 percent increase to the base salaries for all other certified employees was approved for the 2014-2015 school year.

The Board also voted to approve an additional 2013-2014 bonus of $800 for classified employees and $1,000 for certified employees. With this additional bonus, the district has put a total of $1.6 million into bonuses for all employees this year.

“We were very happy to be able to provide bonuses and raises for our employees this year,” said Randall Williams, superintendent of schools. “We have a great team at Russellville School District, and it’s always nice to reward good people for good work.”
