The Arts at RHS

FINE ARTS

Fine Arts at RHS is divided into three areas including Visual Arts, Theater and Forensics, and Music. One semester of Fine Arts and one semester of Oral Communications is required for graduation. The additional fine art courses can be taken as elective credits and are encouraged for students interested in the Arts, Audio-Visual Technology, and Communications career cluster.

VISUAL ARTS

Visual Arts at RHS promote mastery on several levels. The beginning levels emphasize gaining a degree of mastery of basic drawing techniques, design, and color theory. Experiences are provided in ceramics, printmaking, painting, and commercial art, where career awareness is stressed. Each of the advanced art courses builds on these beginning skills. Each course is a full year course and meets the 1/2 credit fine arts requirement for graduation.

THEATRE AND FORENSICS

Theatre and Forensics at RHS include a variety of course options. The Theatre Performance I course focuses on learning and demonstrating mastery of theatre academic and performance skills, while Theatre II and III students focus on the practical application of skills developed in Theatre I. Theatre students participate in both fall and spring performances held at the Center for the Arts.
Stagecraft I provides students with both exposure to and experience in all elements of technical theatre, including scenery, props, lighting, sound, costume, and make-up. Stagecraft II and III work with students to advance these skills. These students work behind the scenes in the fall and spring performances to make theatre productions run smoothly.
Forensics and Debate provide students with an understanding of the dynamics of effective oral communication when speaking, listening, and responding. Students enrolled in these classes are required to attend tournaments and festivals throughout the year. Debate may be taken in place of Oral Communications for 1/2 credit for graduation.
