A Fable
There once was a field where a donkey and owl lived. The owl would work hard no matter the cost, while the donkey always gave up when things got too complicated.One day the owl got fed up for doing all the work, but every time the owl talked to the donkey about it the donkey would just laugh at the owl.So the owl had an idea he went to look for the donkey and found him on a hill resting under the shade of a tree.The owl went up to the donkey and said “Working hard there aren’t you”,The donkey chuckled “the day sure was long” ”even though you slept through the entire day”.The donkey didn’t respond he just laid there “well then’ said the owl “ I want to make a bet”,The donkey raised his head “If your able to harvest all the crops before the sun sets I will do all the work for the rest of my life” “what if I don’t” asked the donkey. “well that's easy,you will be kicked out of the farm never to be seen again”. The donkey was confused as to why the owl would say that, but decided to accept anyways “well if it means I can sleep more then, challenge accepted” “well then you have until the sun sets, your time starts now”.The donkey got up and went straight to the barn “well I have to think of how to harvest all the crops before the sunsets and I can’t just go and harvest it, just harvesting would be too hard”.The donkey had many ideas, but it time he tried to do one he would just give up because it was too “hard” to do and while he thought of what to do seconds, minutes, and hours past. No matter what he did he would just give up ,but the stakes were too high he couldn’t give up once he decided to hire somebody to do it for him, so he went to another farm and asked everybody if they could help him harvest his own farm, but each time he asked the animals would say “I have my own farm to work on”. The donkey was desperate to find a way until he realized he spent his entire time trying to find an easier way to harvest the crops. He went back to the farm and saw the owl waiting for him. The owl came up to the donkey “well seems like you didn’t even start, I won then”, the donkey put his down ashamed “ now pack your things” “wait Im sorry Ill work next time but please don’t kick me out give me a second chance” pleaded the donkey “sorry but I gave you many chances to redeem yourself but you always failed me” said the owl “ No excuses now get going”. The donkey slowly went to the barn to get his things and when he came back the owl was waiting for him “so long friend, you wasted your time trying to find an easier way out without actually trying the work”. The donkey didn’t respond; he kept his head down and continued to walk out the gate.
I guess the moral was “easier doesn’t mean better” or a more explained one may be Don’t decide somethings too hard without even trying.
