Russellville School District is honored to welcome Dave Wilbers as the new Head Lady Cyclones basketball coach.
Coach Wilbers brings over 36 years of coaching experience to Russellville High School. He comes to RHS after leading the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns for the past 19 seasons. While at ATU, Coach Wilbers amassed a record of 382-162, led them to 12 conference championships, and 9 NCAA Tournament appearances.
“Thank you for the opportunity to lead the Russellville Cyclone Girls Basketball Program.,” said Coach Wilbers. “I want to thank Dr. Lovins, Ben Goodman, Jeff Holt, the school board, and search committee members for believing in me and the trust you have placed with me in leading this program. Together we will work to build a championship team in the classroom, off the floor, and on the court. I look forward to working with and coaching our Cyclone players. Russellville is a special place that is our home with great people . I look forward to the future of Lady Cyclone Basketball and the great memories that will be made!“
Coach Wilbers coached 7 All-Americans and 41 All-Conference players at Arkansas Tech. He is second in all-time wins in Golden Suns’ history.
He began coaching in high school in Oklahoma at Putnam City and Welch, before making the transition to the collegiate level at the University of Missouri at Kansas City (Division I). He has also served as an assistant at Oral Roberts, the University of Tulsa, and the University of Missouri. Coach Wilbers took over as the head coach at Arkansas Tech in 2007 and led the team to a national number one ranking by his second season.
Coach Wilbers graduated from Liberal High School in Kansas and has degrees from Oklahoma Christian University and Fort Hays State University. His wife, Christina, has served as an assistant volleyball coach and basketball coach in Russellville during his time at Arkansas Tech. He has two children (Bailey, 27, and Brett, 22), who both are RHS graduates.
